Get a Job

Steps
  1. Visualize your ideal job and visualize you already having (working at) that job.

  2. Repeat step 1 for a solid week for at least 10 minutes each day.

  3. Tell everyone you know you are looking for work. Job opportunities often do not come from the usual routes like classified ads, employment agencies and unemployment offices.

  4. Call everyone you know and ask how they/their family/their dogs are doing. Slip in the fact that you are job searching and get their ideas (and any leads).

  5. Get your wardrobe in order (power suit, shined shoes, etc. Get a manicure, a haircut, a tan. Start going to the gym and lose a few pounds and start to feel stronger. Cover your tattoo. Do whatever it takes to look or dress like the people already working at the place you are considering as a place to work.

  6. Get your resume together - look at other resumes of your competition and pillage the best of the best.

  7. Get your resume in front of people who can hire you - monster, craigslist, career builder, personal contacts.

  8. Be prepared for the interview - no white socks with dark suits (unless you are in the fashion industry)!

  9. Make looking for work a full time job. Sometimes it takes luck to find a job, but you have to put yourself into the position to be lucky by putting in the legwork.

  10. Negotiate for the best pay.

  11. When you do get the job show up with a good attitude, eagerness to work, and an eagerness to learn. You can demonstrate how interesting and individualistic you are later on when they get to know you.

  12. Show up and receive pay check.

Tips
  • remember.. getting a job is a sales activity. Sales involves the potential (high potential) for rejection - know this going in and love it - each rejection gets you one step closer to the job offer - keep going!

Warnings
  • getting a job may be hazardous to your leisure time.
